AT & T group and global crisis effects

AT & T group – Despite the many customers that it has provided exclusivity for the 3G iPhone, the second mobile phone scratched from the mark to Apple, AT & T suffered as other major groups the effects of the crisis and has just announced a social plan for cost savings.

Last Thursday, AT & T, telecommunications operator based in Dallas, southern United States, announced a broad social concern that 4% of its employees, or about 12.000 posts.

Estimated at more than 465 million euros, this reorganization will begin as soon as this month of December (Merry Christmas in perspective for some) and will continue until the end of next year. According to the Texas group, it will seek to reduce operating costs (no details given about the expected savings).

But it will also delete posts became redundant in certain sectors of the group as fixed telephony, a sector in decline since the development of Internet telephony, and create others in booming sectors such as the Internet access, mobile telephony or video.

On the other hand, the operator reported that in 2008 investment will be far less important than they are this year. No details were given for the moment, but is known more in January.

These announcements follow the publication of disappointing results for the third quarter, the group speaking of “economic pressure” with a title that has still lost nearly 30% of its value since the beginning of the year.
